Frequently Asked Questions

Why do I need a Private Social Worker?

In England we have a choice. For our health needs we can choose from the support offered by the dedicated health staff in the NHS, or we can choose to seek independent, private healthcare advice and treatment and all the advantages that this offers. It is just the same for social care; you can choose to access statutory social services or, if like many you have worked and saved hard for a “rainy day” and now fall outside the “threshold” for statutory support you can choose an independent social care organisation like Verantium. The choice is yours.

But what’s wrong with Statutory Social Services?

Absolutely nothing. If you’re eligible for statutory services I am happy to support you through the assessment (or just point you in the right direction) and help you understand the process and even help you plan your support.  With less money to go around statutory social services have never been more squeezed and under pressure and (rightly) having to prioritise their resources amongst the most needy and at risk.  In reality, with tight eligibility criteria, you may not be eligible for their help and may have to pay for any help you do get. I am however here to help whenever you need us. Indeed part of our service is to help you access the statutory services that you didn’t know you were entitled to.

What happens at my appointment?

First we sit down and discuss what your specific situation is so I can tailor which service is most suitable for you. We then agree what outcomes you want and how to work towards them, including any strategies or approaches that we feel would be useful to you.

How many visits will I need?

It is entirely up to you how many times we meet, you may feel better and more informed after just one visit or you may want me to organise further support and services for you which will usually take 3 to 4 visits to ensure support is tailored to you and once arranged is working well.

How much will it cost?

Please visit the Services page.

Your sessions with me are completely confidential. The only exception to this is if I feel you are a danger to yourself or others, then I would usually discuss this with you before contacting the appropriate agencies. There are some occasions where working with your GP or other organisations would be helpful but I always seek your permission in advance and in consultation with you.
